Papa John's pushes the boundaries!
Friday 5th June World Cups in any sport can live long in the mind – but one
knowledgeable fan will be making a meal of the current Twenty20 cricket
tournament for years to come.
Papa John’s Pizza has challenged armchair fans of the competition to
predict how many sixes will be struck in the tournament – with the
correct entrant (or nearest to the official total) winning that number
of pizzas.
And with the experts predicting a blistering tournament, and players
like Gayle, Pieterson, Gambhir and Malik to take on attacks, that
number could be anywhere between 200 and 400.
That staggeringly equates to enough pizzas to have one a week for the
next four years, or if you wanted to take them at a rate of one a month
then you could be in meals until 2040!
Papa John’s marketing director Simon Wallis came up with the idea after
realizing that his company was going to be closely linked with the
event.
He said: “Pizza has always proved to be a great team-mate of top
quality sport and we have traditionally seen our stores get very busy
during major tournaments – with game times that really fit with having
food delivered we don’t see why this should not apply to this very
watchable version of cricket. |

“It could be a tremendous amount of pizza that someone wins and I imagine they will suddenly have a lot more friends suggesting popping round to their house on a weekly basis!
“We will also be asking people to name their top individual batsman for the tournament in terms of sixes scored, so that in the event of two people correctly predicting the tournament sixes we will have a way of finding the ultimate Twenty20 pundit.”
